CLEMSON POLICE DEPARTMENT

BURGLARY SUSPECT ARRESTED WHILE IN PROGRESS

 

At approximately 10:30PM the evening of October 23, 2013, the Clemson City Police Department received a call where it appeared an individual was inside one of the downtown businesses while the business was to be closed.  Officers from the Clemson City Police Department arrived to find the single window pane of the back door broken out and the door open.  A search of the business (Palmetto Shades) located on College Ave. within the downtown business district of the City found a white male inside the business behind the counter.  The suspect was using a knife in an effort to pry open the register drawer when officers found him.  The suspect was then taken into custody without incident and items from the business found within his clothing pockets.

 

ARRESTED WAS:

Aaron Christopher Derrig; W/M; DOB: March 3, 1993; from Anderson, SC

 

DERRIG WAS CHARGED WITH:

Burglary Second Degree

Possession of a Controlled Substance

Simple Possession of Marijuana

Possession of Burglary Tools

Malicious Damage to Real Property

 

Derrig is currently being held at the Clemson City Jail awaiting a bond hearing from the Judge.
