Kids Day @ the Agricultural Museum Aug 23 2014 - 10:00am - 3:00pm

AGRICULTURAL MUSEUM PRESENTS KIDS DAY On Saturday, August 23, the Bart Garrison Agricultural Museum of South Carolina will be holding the 4th session of a series called Kids Day at “THE AG”. The theme for this session is Simple Machines on the Farm. Through activities and games, students will learn the basic concepts of how simple machines work. Games include pulley tug of war, flash card mania, and rubber duck races. Students will play games like Jeopardy, team word search, and hidden picture ID to enhance their simple machine vocabulary. The concepts behind how levers work will be reinforced by the students making a small take home catapult and launching marshmallows. A scavenger hunt will be held to explore the museum and identify various classes of levers, types of pulleys, and how a farmer would use an inclined plane. Using the principles learned during the day, students will easily lift a large bale of hay and move a 100 lb. rock. Designed around academic standards for grades 4 – 7 (2014-15), students will also: conduct scientific experiments to show how pulleys, levers, and inclined planes work; learn how work, effort, mass, and distance are related; and understand the effects of friction.

Following the Kids Day, an optional tour of the agricultural museum is available at 3 PM. Admission is: adults - $4, seniors - $3, students - $2. Kids Day at “THE AG” begins at 10 AM, ends at 3 PM, and costs $8 and $5 for each additional child in the same family. Activities are designed for grades 4 – 7 (2014-15) and advanced registration is required.
